Time to rebuild 525's

How long should it take to rebuild 525's? What should the total downtime of the boat be?
Thanks

I guess that would depend on how quickly the people involved can do things for you....i.e. how backed up or where you are at in the line-up at the shop doing the machine work, etc, is.

I would say NOW is a very good time to get your stuff into a machine shop because usually many are kinda slow this time of year. If you wait until after the holidays like everyone else you may be standing in line for a lot longer than what you may have anticipated.

I generally run about 8 weeks for a rebuild. It can be as short as 7 weeks. However, in the middle of the summer, it can be 10 or 12 weeks. As Kaama said, now is a great time to get moving on it. I usually stop taking work in at the first of the year because I can't handle any more. I will not take it in if I can't get it done in a reasonable amount of time. It is truly first come, first served.

how many hours on it

It's been 8 weeks but i got a call today saying they will be ready by wed.
130 hrs, CMI got leaky and took out the engine, extended warranty doesnt cover damage caused by leaking exhaust, even though they were sold to me as a package. Anyone have any luck getting anything from CMI?

That's not too bad...considering the shop is probably doing multiple projects... When it gets to be 5-6-8-10 months for two engines they I'd be worried...

If you want, PM who's doing the work.

Assembly goes quick once the tolerances are set and machine work is done! :drink:

What exactly is involved in a "rebuild"?
Just curious what the actual man-hours are for a rebuild? Re-ring and all beariings, all new top end, assemble/disassemble, magnaflux heads and block. Not including any machine work, but I'm curious what the man-hours are for that too. Line hone and overbore on the block, plus minimal valve job.

Not looking for rates, just hours for the job. Is there a labor book for the marine industry, like there is for the automotive? i've got a buddy that works for Alldata, need to shoot him a note...
