water pressure sending unit 496

2003 496 where is the best place to put the sending unit on my 496 for water pressure gauge? Thanks K.C.

therer is a bung allready on the oil cooler on the back of the engine used for a water pressure sender for the smart craft and computer monitoring.. remove the factory unit and install a 1/4 pipe male, male, female tee.

pstorti 12-26-2007 08:23 PM

why don't you just get some smartcraft gauges???

Velocity Vector 12-26-2007 08:57 PM

Because I have a complete set of Monsters,

pstorti 12-28-2007 04:37 PM

no room on the dash anywhere? No 3 1/2" gauges you might be willing change?

Reckless32 12-28-2007 08:13 PM

Typically they come stock with a splitter off the brass T on the raw water pump where the smartcraft sending unit is, at least on my 2005.

no I'm asking if you have two 3 1/2" gauges you could remove and replace them with smartcraft sc1000's or if you have room to install an sc5000 system view. I have the ones I took out of my daytona and I was very pleased with the information they provided, much better than analog gauges.

Yes the smartcraft screen is really nice but I just like the looks of the monster gauges better. I do have the sc1000, I really don't have room for the big screen and I'm so stupid I can't hardly play a radio.

pstorti 12-29-2007 10:44 AM

If you have the sc1000 then you already have water pressure. Why do you want water pressure info anyway are you having problems with hoses or temp??

Velocity Vector 12-30-2007 02:05 AM

My 1000 gauge quit working so I am replacing that hole with the monster water pressure gauge, No problems yet with temp or hoses. I just got a really good deal on these Livorsi gauges fifteen total gauges, yellow rims and yellow bezels, twelve-2 5/8, Three-4 1/5 in. 100mph gps speedo, gps puck, recall switch and 2 monster tachs for $760.00

I agree this is the easiest place to mount a mech pick up for a gauge. Jamie / lakeside

You can always take one of the drain plugs out of the side of the block, one is by the starter, one by the oil adapter. My last boat was done that way. The new boat has a 525 and is rigged up to the header where the drain plug would be. The oil cooler would be pretty easy too.

Not on a 496 8.1.. They are closed cooled.. You are thinking of the other BBC that are open cooled systems.. ;) Jamie / Lakeside

You're right, I didn't catch that the first time.

Scratch the block, but you could use one of the drain plugs off your exhaust.

My 2003 496 came with the pressure sender mounted on the seawater pump.
