Default MarkIV heads to a Gen5 454?

I was reading SA Design Chevy Rat Motor book and it states that MarkIV heads will not work on a Gen5 Block. Is this true?

Thanks

I'll burn.. There used to be a head gasket that would work. I think it was a Felpro, might give them a call and see what they say.
I bought one of the first 502 short blocks released from GM before they were available to the public. Ordered it on a day when some one with some clout ordered theirs.. and mine was released. Any way, I ended up putting a set of Dart 320 heads on my gen V block and didnt need any special head gaskets. Never had a problem with leaks. The water passages in the block are tear drop shaped. The GM heads will leak unless used the special head gaskets at that time.

Hope that helps.. good luck!
Dick

I have Mark IV 820's on my Gen V. They work fine. Use the Gen V gaskets. I have heard that Gen V heads have problems on Mark IV blocks.
Good luck!!!
