For all of you engine guru's

here are the specs for the cam installed on my rebuilds.

226/234@50 - .587/.610 - 112lobe sep

I had 502's bored to 509's. Same heads with mild port work and larger valve's (same as hp500's) Flat top pistons, Eddie Marine thunder headers, roller rockers, and I kept the efi system. Had the computers reprogramed by Mark at Performance Marine in Louisiana.

My question is... what do you think the hp would be? Take your best guess as I won't be able to put it on the dyno. I had them re-built with longevity in mind and was wondering if I got any more power than stock 502's.

That looks like the 500EFI cam you're using. I'd guess a little over 500 hp.

Come on Ian that's real world numbers...we're bench dyno'n here! I say 600hp minimum and will last 900 hours!!! :D

Cam is a Crane 731 and just slightly bigger than 500hp cam. It should make 500-520hp at 5200 rpms.

I agree:p:p

What's the compression ratio?
My Desk Top Dyno says around 500HP with 8.5:1.

5050 01-08-2008 10:51 PM

compression will be lower than stock. would be good for a blower though.

My engine builder said with a flat top piston and a slightly bigger bore I should be at the same compression ratio or slightly higher than stock.

Do the math and figure in the deck hgt. the head gasket thickness and the chamber volume. It's the only way you'll know. If you aren't zero decking the block it may be lower than you think.

Im looking at buying Lakeracers old boat. But it looks like he hasnt logged on since 2018. Does anyone have anymore information on the engine work he had done. Will it run on 87?
