I'm also using the XS Performance system - very beefy, works great and probably the best-priced. Brian was also there at 7:00 p.m. to help over the phone with my install.

Hydrive steering is made in Austraila. Some of the discontinued S.S. rams are of excellent quality and are as good or better than the named brands. They usually have clevis ends and a round transom mount. They work great and hardly ever seemed to leak. I have bought about 10 different sets and used them on many different boats even with#3's. The helm pump they used weighed too much(like 40lbs.), but the rams are 1st quality. The tech guy at hydrive told me they were too expensive to make a profit ,so they stopped production.hydrive always sent parts though. I got some from OMC for o/b set-ups, and found a few more at surplus boat stores. This was a good alternative to new expensive set up for some guys, just use a different helm(charlyn capliano) and you have a good system. There are corporate office's in n.y..

Stick with name brand units. Anything else is pure junk..AS for as cats go, yes they all use hydaulic systems Capilano,Latham, Mayfair, S.S. Marine. Just how much do you wanna spend and how fast ? Would you trust cable steering systems or mickey mouse electric pumps ???

You may want to check out XS Performance....

I've had their system for a few years and it's worked GREAT!!
It was a bit cheaper than the "name brands" but still WELL constructed..
