After market exhaust

What after market exhaust would you suggest to use on a stock small block ? Need to get the anchors they've got bolted to the engine out of there.

Do you want a Performance Exhaust system or a cast aluminum replacement system for your cast iron system?

Scarab28 01-25-2008 06:41 PM

Check out the CMI's on ebay - looks like a great deal.

FRMULTR 01-25-2008 09:44 PM

I like the CMI's, but probably more then I need for a stock motor. The ones on ebay are nice, though I would need two sets. I did run EMI's on my ProCharged Eliminator, and they worked well. Just looking for a little performance edge on all the other 292's with stock power.

If EMI worked well for you, there Perfomance Small block system's are the same. PM me for a price.

I think Stainless Marine still makes an exhaust manifold system for a SBC.

For a stock engine your not going to gain much. If you go with aluminum manifolds the weight savings will benefit the most. I use Glenwood Magnaflow aluminum manifolds and FastGlass Stainless long risers. I gained 150-200 rpms and close to 2mph on a stock Merc 260. This is on a hull that ran 60 stock and weighs 1800lbs dry with a pad bottom.

It's really not a cost effective peformance mod unless you plan on further modifying the engine. If you still plan on it your better off going with the GLM aluminums. They are half the price of the others for the same performance gain.

I went with 2 sets of polished Revolution Marines.....great price.......direct drop in for your stock Merc manifolds.......took 200lbs off the back of the boat and add some bling.......about 1.5 to 2 on top, noticably better holeshot......very satisfied......make sure you get both brackets(shift and oil filter) and dont bother getting the polished versions , you cant see them......doug

Food for thought here an aluminum manifold and aluminum riser exhaust system for nearly a $1000.00 seems like a lot of money??

While your choices are endless. If affordability is your concern you should look at the "Super Sport" series systems as they are a great value they feature internally divided runners as the systems referenced here do and they have a polished stainless steel exhaust riser for only $1175.00 http://www.cpperformance.com/detail.aspx?ID=6941
The same system is available with a aluminum riser for $579.00 http://www.cpperformance.com/detail.aspx?ID=6943.

Stainless marine builds the longest lasting best built system period. It features an internal header casting with draw formed water jackets around the outside. In the event years from now it may fail it will fail externally, and not internally into the engine. These systems sell for $1682.99 http://www.cpperformance.com/detail.aspx?ID=2906

In the end I would have to say the number one performing manifold sysem for a small block chevy by shear power numbers is still the Imco Power Flow. This sytem has the longest best seperated runner design of any current small block exhaust manifold. This system sells for $1975.00 http://www.cpperformance.com/detail.aspx?ID=2644

This is just a fraction of the systems we offer. Another thing to consider we don't sell brackets and accessories separately as they are "ALL" included. lets face it you probably need them? There's no reason to tell you your exhaust costs $XX.XX and oh yeah you need to buy more stuff? Let me know if we can assist you. Happy Boating
