Temp fix squirt WD40 on them. Sometimes will help.
Medium term solution I taped up everything including the transom and the decals, scuffed the dull paint with 400 grit and spray painted with the can Merc Phantom Black. Looks fine. |

Is the cloudy part the upper and top Cap? Do you use Mary Kate On/Off hull cleaner? Is it original paint? The hot part of the drive will build up with hard water stains and get baked on On/Off will remove that with out scrubbing. You can rub with WD and in worst case polish with meguires #2 fine cut cleaner. A heavy compound will dull it. Mercury paint is very tough and will clean up nice. Phantom black rattle can works well too.

stains from outdrive
before i bought a drive shower i used clr from the hardware store, spray it on and wash it off with the hose, works great, the white stain is the calcuim in the water that the heat of the top of the drive boils out of the water and then stains the drive.

Lime away works wonders. Spray on, wipe, and rinse off. Repeat until it looks clean again. Works on exhaust tips too.

Ditto, Lime Away! I have used it on outboards and outdrives for 15 years. Use a small, soft dishwashing sponge. May take several times, but they will shine like new.
