..........and petroleum oils DON't have parafin? What the hell is he talking about? Another name for petrolem lube base stock is Parafinic base stock. One of the reasons why synthetics are better in colder weather than petroleum oils is that in petrolem oils the parafin or wax starts to plate out and "thickens" the oil and if the temp is depressed enough, the oil will become a candle, just add a wick.

I'll tell you what.....that tech at Mercury is an absolute IDIOT! Synthetics don't have parafin in them. Just like the above statement, that is what makes them so much superior.

Higher parafinnic oils have in the past been associated with Penzoil and it was hope for more "sticking power" to reduce wear during the 1960-70's..
Synthetics are PAO's...no parrifin...parrifin is the result from a cut off point during processing from crude to refined.
Sterling Engines says to use M-1 15w-50,,,wonder why Merc is not buying into Synthetics...the racing guys use it.
