I have seen a number of posts on the Boat US forums that question the safety of portable generators- there have been a number of deaths due to carbon monoxide poisoning over the years, but this can also happen to a fixed unit as well under certain circumstances.
The Honda will probably not have enough surge capacity to start the generator- I have a 7000 btu Cruiseair fixed A/C unit, and it draws 2000-2500 watts at normal run, and up to 3500 for startup.
I would get in touch with a local Cruiseair dealer and see what they say.

purchased one late last year, it was a cruise n comfort a/c heater. The unit works really good below 100 degrees, keeps my cabin nice and cool, or extreme temps the company has a 100 plus degree 12 volt compresor based unit on the way, bt for my boating this unit works just fine, and it has built in heat. I think they have a sale on them. Just google 12 volt marine a/c its cold marine air .
