Default 502 lifter noise

Hello All,

I just started my rebuilt engine today and not happy with the results. The lifters are noisey the are standard roller lifters with stamped rockers . I tried several times to adjust them but no luck , the rockers are very hot and the nuts are starting to gaul . I did notice with the valve cover off and running the solid pushrods are not pumping alot of oil upto the rocker and could see alot of oil leaking around the lifter. It seems that the pushrod and lifter is not making a good seal. The vaccuum is bouncing between 10 and 11 not sure if the valves are to tight .I have adjusted lifters before but their is something wrong with this set-up. Any ideas . Thanks

My suggestion is start from the beginning. Pull all the rockers off, pull the push rods, check everything for unusual wear. Check the studs for any spots where the rockers may have nicked them. Check the springs for any broken coils. All the valve should look to be at the same height. If everything looks good, I would attempt to install everything and adjust the lash. If the noise persists, then I would look into the lifters.

Ask your builder if he had any small pipe plugs left over after he was done
