Default fuel pressure

hey guys,
what are you guys running for psi into the carb after a regulator?how low should you not go?i bought a holley marine electric pump and was having pressure problems on saturday with my new motor,only had 3 1/2 to 4 psi at the gauge on the fuel rail,bought a new gauge today and had 5 psi,removed the little filter in the fuel rail and now have 6 psi with key on and engine off???????????

we run 7-8 psi on holley 1150's.
our regulators are mounted after the fuel rail and the fuel pressure gauge reads off the regulator. its a weldon return syle.
