I know there have been many threads on oils, but, would't mind a "one-stop-shop" input from everyone. Please also add whether its carb, blown, injected...etc. THANKS Bob!


Engine w/ Oil Wt & Type > 488-carb / 40W Castrol
Trans w/ Oil Wt & Type > TwinDisc502 / 30W NAPA Non-Det
Drive w/ Oil Wt & Type > KAAMA / unknown

(shame on me, had not changed the drive yet)

This is what I've been doing. Haven't had any oil related problems do to my lube choices. One boat (low pro) has almost 1000hrs on it.

454 mags - 25w50 castrol
bravo 1 - merc or quicksilver high pro gear lube

231 volvo - 25w- 50 castrol
b31 duoprop - volvo gear lube

Last year: HP500carb/40wt Valvoline
Bravo1/Merc HP lube

This year: (new motor)
HP500carb/40wt Redline synthetic(after 20hours)
Bravo1(rebuilt)/Redline shock proof

trans - Ford type F
outdrives - Redline Shockproof Heavy

Boat = 1984 ScarabII twin 454's mildly worked over. B/W trans and TRS outdrives

By the way,,,I change the engine oil every 25 hours, and the gear oil every 50 hours

510 carb - 30W Mobil 1
Bravo 1 - Synthetic Quicksilver or Sierra
Change oil monthly and gear lube 2-3 times a season
No oil related failures
