If it has an alph drive, put an SS alpha on it. I did on mine and gaind several MPH.

They are very much in the water at speed!, my boat has an XR in it, runs 83 right now.
I have an SS on my 18 donzi.

Guys, are we talking different designs here? I just went out and had a quick look on mine, it is a factory big block year 88 boat. The ramps are between the 2nd and 3rd strakes, counting from keel.
I have grinded them off on a small block boat, actually an inofficial tip from the factory to gain some speed. They are (or at least were on MY 87) just gelcoat filler so grinding and polishing will restore finish.
Anyhow, I can't see what good they are closing top speed. I'm running a ~470 hp 454 and XR drive @70 mph and the boat is for sure not deeper than the 2nd strake, my sonar which is mounted close to the 3rd verifies that.
(The small block boat was some 10 knots/11,5 mph slower so there they may have been in more contact with the surface)
