M-1 15W-50 Red Cap is back!
Well sort of anyways....
http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...1_15W-50_.aspx
New formuation M-1 Silver Cap:
It has an SL rating like Red Cap essentially looks like the "old" formulation.
Silicon: M1 15W-50: 9ppm
Boron: M1 15W-50: 228ppm
Sodium: M1 15W-50: 13ppm
Magnesium: M1 15W-50: 43ppm
Calcium: M1 15W-50: 2464ppm
Phosphorus: M1 15W-50: 1193ppm
Zinc: M1 15W-50: 1315ppm
Molybdenum: M1 15W-50: 90ppm
I believe Gold Cap has a bit higher TBN possibly for extended changes. Both products are excellent.
It also has a higher film strength than Gold Cap. More suitable for offshore engines I would think whereas Gold Cap is more for extended drains.
I think it is also cheaper than Gold Cap...shoosh...GC is about $8/qt and SC about $6/qt.
