-----Does anyone have any input on the reverse direction starters that mount on a TRS/B-W bell-housing??? Are they a good idea??? Are there different suppliers??? Are there any over-seas light-weight geared statrers available for this application??? Are they (if they exist) any good???........Bill S

I have used the Tilton BBC mini rear mount (reverse rotation) for 10 plus years. Excellent results. I also have one Mercury rear mount starter. Guarenteed to work $50 + Frt.

The top mounts have 3 advantages. The first is they don't get wet nearly as badly as the block mount. Second, they're further away from fumes that might be collecting down there. Third, they take minutes to remove & replace vs. a serious wrestling match that might include removing the exhaust- especially on twins.

The current Mercury starter is a pmg (perm magnet gear reduction), PN is 808011A4, they use it on everything including the 1200 SCi

We sell it for $200

Has anyone measured the amp draw on the 808011A4, using a clamp around amp meter ?

Marc,
I didn't know about the new Merc starter. $200 for a UL/CG marine HP starter is a great deal...not like Mercury to leave $ on the table!
