advice on non performance boat
hey guys,
my best bud and his wife are looking at their first boat and he really likes this 1995 26 ft four winns vista that is for sale,it is a great price and is very clean, the problem is it has a 5.4?liter engine and he says the outdrive just says omc but the flame arrestor cover says king cobra,so it must be a king cobra outdrive and ford motor?????
I thought omc was junk but is this true for non performance?

The OMC product wasn't necesarily bad, it just was "different". OMC no longer exists, bought out by Bombardier in '01, out of bankruptcy. That would make me worry about parts and service.

first, there is no 5.4L, 5.0 ford 302ci 5.0 gm=305ci 5.7gm=350 5.8 ford=351ci 7.4gm=454 7.5 ford=460, in 1995 volvo purchased part of omc, there was a new drive design that had both omc and volvo's name on it, it could be a sx drive that was a cone shift and it was and still is a good drive, then there was the omc king cobra cone shift that was a peice of junk, you can still get parts , but it is a below standard drive, I think they only used it for 4 years, 91 to 94, so it is possible that it has the sx on it.
