getting ready to purchase an 01 baja hammer with the stock 454 mpi how can i tell if its a mag?

should say it on the sticker on top of the intake , getting deeper if you pull a valve cover off and check the casting # on the head , i believe the mag end in 088 , and a non mag ends in 360 , ....... but .... also , 454 MPI 310 horse has a plastic cover over the intake , the Mag motor doesnt , just the aluminum intake painted black with the sticker on top

its probably not a MAG , look for a red sticker on the Starboard (driver side) valve cover , it will give you rated horsepower , 310 and 330 are not MAG's , anything over that are , IE 365/385/415

what makes them mags? the cam and heads?

A mag motor looks like this. The intake that is. This motor has different valve covers.

The mag motors also have forged internals where the others have cast internals.

The 7.4 LX MPI 330 HP also looked like that but says that on the intake plenum
