help with harch actuator

I have the dm12 series actuators pushing up my engine hatch. One side has decided to not go up. I need the box that the relays are in. I took the box apart and it has two relays that are inside. Anybody have any ideas where to find it?

ttt

Are they the little black box Bosch-style 12v relays? If so, you can get them at any auto parts store.

gsmith9898 07-28-2008 11:36 AM

no, this is a sealed unit that was made and sold by rex marine.

Then just replace it with a pair of the Bosch units. They make a waterproof one and they cost about $6 apiece. There was just a thread a month or so ago- I listed the part #. I'm travelling right now or I'd look it up for you.

theres a few threads on this, the one I bought wasent sealed

That looks more like it except I have two actuators. I called Kenny at eliminator and he said I could run the two wires from the dash straight too the wires on the actuators.

As long as the wires are large enough. Otherwise the hatch can operate slowly. That's the reason for the relay setup.

I took the side that was not running and hooked it into the side that was. Works so far.

I bet the switch is only rated to 15amps,prob need to be 30

Great image SP...does anyone have an electrical schmatic of how that works? I've fewled around making my own, but keep creating a latching circuit.

Here's one I got from somebody on Speedwake.

People typically use two of the Bosch relays in parallel since they're readily available and cheap. You can get larger DPDT relays but they can be expensive. The biggest reason to use a relay is that low voltages are way more susceptible to transmission losses than higher voltages. Running all that wiring in 8 gauge (back & forth twice for each one) and then finding a switch big enough to work reliably is way more complicated and expensive.

Great post guys...
Dave have you tested that arrangement? I bought a single relay from Radio Shack and figured I could just use it to raise the hatch, and low power on the lower would be fine. The way I read the schematic, when raising terminals 30 & 87a are broken on the energized relay, but shorted on the relaxed relay? this is what messed me up on the Radio Shack relay, as I could never get ground back to lower the hatch.

I was under the impression that one relay was norm off and the other was norm on

Guys, i made that schematic up orriginaly and someone over on speedwake filled i the wire gauges later....the way its wired up the relays always have a ground on them when not energized....its only when you give the relay its trigger does it switch over to the 87 terminal to give power to the hatch actuator...

Naughty Kitty 07-29-2008 03:06 PM

That makes sense..thanks Wally

Wally 07-30-2008 09:03 AM

Naughty Kitty....you can make a single relay work for what you have in mind....give me a little time and i'll draw up a new schematic for ya......this is assuming that your dash switch is wired like a typical switch and reverses the polarity of the wires when its working.....
