Oil and grar lube

What on earth is a non - pao..???
Very simple answer, ...anything that is not a PAO
A PAO is a group IV base oil only, it is a synthesized hydrocarbon, the result of a chemical reaction.
GroupII and III are really Group I products, further processed.
Mobil 1 is a PAO Group IV product with esters, (Group V)
Mobil is the largest producer of Group IV PAO in the world, that is why it is used in Mobil 1 products, thats why it is use in Mobil 1 products, besides it is an outstanding base oil.
And Motul.....Group V

Esters, both Dibasic acid esters and Polyol esters are also great base stocks, low pour points (not that important for a boat), important for jet aircraft and equipment in the Arctic.
They also have great thermal stability, (people on the board seem to panic when oil hits 170F) , excellent solvency, can dissolve, clean up deposits left by other products. Additive selection is very important to prevent hydrolisys and oxidative stability. Chemical resistant seals are recommended as esters tend to have seal swelling properties.
I would question the 100% synthetic comment.
The base oil is no doubt 100% synthetic but industry practices dictate additives to be solubleized in a petroleum base stocks.
With that being said, is any 100% synthetic oil 100% synthetic?
Like most of the oils discussed on this thread and other threads the Motul product is overkill for 99% of the users on
the board. People spend huge dollars for a product and then change it way before the the products life is even half up.
I guess using expensive oil is "like a badge of honor"
Do I use a full synthetic? No I use a blend and even though I have access to "full syn" products, in my applications I can't beat a blended product.

2.) Merc 25W-40 Semi-syn is a good product.
3.) M-1 Silver Cap 15W-50 at Wally Land....change 25 hrs....for a fully synthetic. Great protection for the $$.
4.) If you run extra hard or race then M-1 V-Twin or Amsoil V-Twin or Amsoil Severe Service 20W-50 or Redline 20W-50 HP or Motul 15W-50 or RP 20W-50.
With the 4th category offering the most heat and shear stability /protection and all are pretty close performance wise and cost wise here. ($ about $10 or so /qt)..

I always use Merc HP.
If I went to a full syn it would be either M-1/Amsoil SG/RP or RL.

i've always run the merc hp as well, but was told to switch to the RP due to my horsepower rating on the stock B1..... so i'm in research mode.
