Default how to sell engine

If you were going to sell your current engine and repower what would you sell? The engine is a 2000 FI 454MAG w/ 275 hours. It has been upgraded by Tyler Crockett Marine (exhaust,valvetrain, cam upgrade) to make 461HP/514lbs tq with dyno sheets. The new engine will be a carberated 540. The engine just had a valve job and is being put back together. I am trying to figure out what if everything should be bolted back on the motor. I am assured this engine is in good shape and should run trouble free for another 200-300 hours. Should I sell the motor completed with accessories and exhaust ready to bolt in or try and keep some parts and carry them over to the new motor. I think the ignition, wiring, fuel system, etc simply will not work with the new carb motor. I am leaning towards selling the motor complete and buying a complete motor. Any thoughts?

And the potential buyer might think exactly the same thing as you.....a complete engine with complete accesories makes foe a complete installation.......easy enough....
Sounds like you answered your own question.

Sell it complete and let the buyer swap what he wants.

Much less whining and no "new best friends" this way.

Keep us updated on the new setup.

Thanks for the opinions. I agree selling the motor complete is the best way to start. The mechanic is going to bolt everything back on. Here are a few pictures of the 454MAG partially assembled following the valve job.

Looks like its coming along. Sounds like a solid set of upgrades to do in any case. Heads would be next if you were keeping that engine.

Nothing like a squeeky clean assembly area to put oneself at ease!

Whos 540 are you going with? Do you have external steering?

Ive heard a lot of the guys in this forum talk about marine only builds with "proper clearances" but Ive been running basically a car engine in my little tunnel hull for almost a decade with only minor issues. Not worth getting into a 100 reply dialog with guys that havent done it (or anything for that matter) that "know better".

I just sent you an email. The motor should be complete by Saturday, that date can be moved forward if there is a need.

We do have hydraulic steering and HP tabs. I think we are going ATECO on the 540. I have heard mixed reviews but Bill has been easy to deal with, has provided me several engine quotes over the years and provides a 2 year warranty. The mechanic doing the assembly work after the heads had a valve job is very good. The cleaniliness of the assemby area is slightly concerning, but nobody's perfect! About running the car engine and tolerances; myy wife doesn't get excited about going to the lake so I will pay a little more than I need for some insurance the boat will start and run all day. What type of propulsion system do you have on the tunnel? My father has a 19ft. Southwind Tunnel jet. The boat is a lot of fun.

Always good to buy from people you have relationships
& history with.

Ive had garage mechanics that were great- and some not so, one left a cleaning brush in an oil pan once.

My sebring tunnel has a bravo 1XR with a mercury intgrated transom system and a fully hydraulic helm - kind of overkill for a 21 ft boat but it handles like its on a rail & it was too fast to be without steering-. Jets are blast coz you can run insane HP and not break anything, but they sure suck gas. Dads southwind sounds like a blast.
