Drive lube Testing

Does anyone do a test on drive lube to determine wear? I will be changing the lube soon on my TRS drives and would like to send in a sample. The starboard drive was rebuilt by Dollar a few years ago and does not have much time on it, the port drive I dont have any idea on...

I haven't seen one on drive oil, but the amsoil website has one on gear lube. top 3 were amsoil,GM synthetic, and Mobil 1. Since learning Merc high perf lube isn't synthetic( but priced like it is) I'm switching to M1 when I service the drives next week.

I've done tests on gear lube before. But, yeah, here is a good reading on gear lubes if you have some time.

I use a company for oil analysis called "The Oil Analysis Lab" in Spokane, Washington. I use them because they are an independent lab, and secondly their test results are very easy to read and understand.

Royal Purple is great for TRS. I ran it before I got Konrads

i find the amsoil propaganda just to breathless to be believeable. it may well be as good as they say but ive never seen any evidence that it is materially better than anything else the the full syn catagory.

I am not looking into the tests of comparable oils, I want to test the oil in my drives for wear. 07DominatorSS thanks for the oil analysis company.

M1 is very good gear oil. However it will not protect the gears and bearings if water enters the drive. I had that problem last year and lost my gears. The Merc and Amsoil will keep this from happening. Just my experience.

If you get your lube tested I would be interested in seeing the results, hours, brand, drives? I just switched to Amsoil even though my Merc lube looked new after one season. I only had a minute amount of metal powder on the magnet. I also switched to the Monster Magnets.
