Default proper location for K plains

I am looking on where to mount a set of 280s k plains and the only place that they will fit is just above a strake. The strake ends up fully under it at the inside edge of the tab . Is this a bad thing or should I look to get a set of Edie Marine tabs That are 12" wide. Those would fit just fine.

Hay Paul, I think they will work fine. Just make sure they are not above the chine. I'll check to make sure but I think my boat has a strake under the tab.

Paul,
Are you planning to install the tabs on the same angle as the V bottom or at straight angle? I have seen this done on some race boats, from what I have read it makes for a more stable ride.

I Agree with CheckmateF1 in that it will not be a problem over the strake. I would recomend mounting the outer edge( away from drive) about a 1/8 to 3/8 inch above the bottom and the angle to be a little less than the deadrise. TomR also has an excellent point but I would mount them at a lesser angle than the hull. So if you have a 24deg deadrise which I think the Scarab has than the tabs would mount at about a 18 or 20 deg. angle so that the inboard edge would be even more above the bottom about 2 inches on a 12 inch wide tab. this helps in high speed rough water conditions. the boat will flatten Before the landings somewhat and make the boat more foregiving on off angle landings. Good luck The Ironman.
