Hello all,
I pulled my motoer out over the weekend am am anxiously awaiting my new 540. Whith the them motor out, I plan to clean up the engine compartment and change a few items. I have a few questions.
1) I would like to change out the stock Mercruiser T- handle shifter-throttle control for the type with the two levers one for shifting one for throttle. Would this require new cables? or can I reuse the originals?
Also do those shifters have an an out drive trim button built in them?
2) I have a remote oil filter location currently, but it is set up on the back end of the block. I would like to add some hose and mount it on a bracket forward n the engine compartment. Are there any restrictions as fat as length of hose- height of filter etc..
any input would be appreciated..

Ok on the shifters, I have the same boat, changed mine, did have to change the cables to the teleflex red jackets, not expensive to mate with the gaffrig shifter, used a fiberglass shifter pod from eddie marine to mount the shifter, at first I had it over the stock hole, but was to far back, just moved it all the way forward and covered the hole with the spec plate. as far as the oil lines are concerned keep as short as you can as the longer will cause a pressure drop....Rob

1. There are many aftermarket shifters available, many in the configuration you desire. As far as hooking up the cables you may need an adapter like this
to hook up your cable. Here are some of the available shifters. You can get them with or without trim buttons.
2. There are no restrictions, more lines means more oil. On your application I would suggest running -10 or -12 AN line. The main thing is PSI.
Hope this is helpfull.
