29,
You should expect approx 1 MPH for each 20 HP. |

My 29 w/HP500's would run that speed.....you're going to need to be in that neighborhood for power to achieve those #'s. |
Here's a link to some testing we did on the 496 that may help you out.
http://fullthrottlemarine.com/496%20...%20Article.htm I can help you out on the Raylar kits and headers if you decide to go forward with the project. Bob

I just did a 2006 Mag that was running exhaust thru the prop. Picked up 12mph with Raylar Kit, Whipple stage 2, stock exh manifolds with minor port work and turbulators removed, and thru hull exh. It's sounds sweet but if I had to do it again I'd probably look around for low hour 500EFI and sell the 496...

Hp and still turn key. If you want to stay with the 496 its the way to go. Power, great sound and is never stalls or stumbles. Dont get me wrong its not a 598 or 632 cid. But you wont have to work on it at every weekend. Just do your service work and use good oil. I use Mobil-1 15w50 Red top. |
I too just received my 525 Raylar kit...it looks awesome and I cant wait to get it installed. I am not sure if I will opt for headers or not....its going in my 280 Silencer.

Looking to install 525 kits on my HO's in my 35 outlaw. Boat is running 71-72 GPS what speeds are realistic.

Raylar Kits make 496's Rock!!
adding Raylar 525HP kits to 496 mag twin engines will net you 300 more horsepower with stock exhaust. I feel your boat will need about 18-20HP per mile an hour increase in speed which should translate to about 15-17 mph more speed in your Baja 29 if the boat has a normal setup and bottom. You should easily see 83-85mph with that boat and our Raylar kits. The midrange cruise speed and fuel economy difference will also be a big surprise and benefit.
If you upgrade the exhaust you might even see close to 90 mph out of that boat. If there are soe OSO'ers here with Mercury Racing HP525efi's in that boat or some test results on that setup it should confirm my input as they make about 540HP at the crankshaft. I think you will have nothing but a BIG GRIN on your face after upgrading you 496 MAG's to 525HP each!! Best Regards, Ray @ Raylar |

Do it. Its not overkill. It is still turn key setup. I done the 525 kit with the CMI sport tubes/billet throttle body. I put on the headers first. They are good for 5 mph alone! GPS.

[QUOTE=SDFever;2773842]hey how many hours were on your engine when you put the kit on? how many are on it now? do you know roughly how many run time hours you put on a year??[/QUOTE
The first one had 196 hrs on it. I done the kit and a piston broke at 221 hrs. It took out everything!! I purchased a new 2008 from Ray and put another 525 kit on and it has 9.5 hrs on it now and runs great. There must of been something wrong with the other engine because the new one is 7mph faster with all the same stuff. |
