Default Volvo penta 496 8,1 missing ecu ,need help

Hi

I bought two 2002 375hp , 8,1 496 GI volvo penta engines from a guy in MA. and everything was included in the sale , then the motors where shipped to me in sweden, but when i got them
i saw that the ecu:s is not installed on the motors. And the guy i bought them from in MA dont answer on e-mail and phonecalls.

My question is where can i get these ecu:s ? and are they the same as mercruiser use ? Any help would be grateful.

No, they are not the same as the Merc. Post the serial numbers of the motors and I'll get you a part number for the ECM. You should be able to get them over there, if not I've got one spare and can get you another one. Alex

So is this guy that sold these motors on OSO?
That stinks that they are missing the ECU's. Did the crates look tampered with?

ae23... Here's the scoop.. There aren't any in North America right now. Any major Volvo Penta OEM has the software to reflash them though. You can buy new MEFI 4's for about $400. or find some used ones and have them reflashed for a small fee. Maybe one of the guys from MEFI Burn knows where to get cheaper new or used MEFI boxes? I checked the spare box I have and I've written over it already.. Let me know if you need any more help. Alex..

Thanks for your time, i will check on ebay and other sources
for the ecu:s. I saw summit had an MSD "MEFI" box that was made to be programed from an laptop. Is it possible to use one , if you have somebody who has the knowledge to set it up ( idont have it)

There's lots of options, but you don't have to worry about programming one from scratch.. Talk to your local Volvo dealer first, and take a good look at those engines to figure out why they took off the computers. Maybe trying to hide that the motors have 2000 hours
And who sold them to you, post their name, number, email..
