Default 454 Exhaust Upgrade???

Greetings.

I'm beginning to rebuild a performance 454 and before selecting the internal engine components I am being advised to upgrade the stock exhaust manifolds first.

Question: My thru hole exhaust tips are located much wider apart than a stock bravo setup. I am currently having to use an S-bend configuration with aluminum manifolds. Without having to completely customize a set of water jacketed pipes is there any performance systems that might be able to work with these current hole locations?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

What exactly do you have now??? Stock Merc exhaust manifolds are cast iron. Can you post or link a pic???

Maybe Revolution Marine exhaust will work.

I believe the manifolds are GLM, aluminum with a 3in spacer between the manifold and riser. I'll try and post a pick soon.

Whatever you do, just make sure the exhaust system you choose is a good one FIRST. I would say don't buy a new aftermarket exhaust system just because it fits your current tailpipe cut-outs, but buy it because it has a good reputation for performance and durability.

I do not know of all the current GOOD (manifold type) aftermarket hi-perf exhaust systems out there---but here are a few...Stainless Marine, GIL, Dana. There are a few others, but I just am not real familiar with them.

I hope it goes well for you....have fun!

Stainless Marine would be my first choice for a stock replacement. Brownie can make tailpipes in any shape almost to help aid in height and angle.

A picture would be helpful. You can have a fabricator make anything for you.
