Default alpha 1 leg shower

Just need to know if there is any benefit in fitting a leg shower to alpha 1 pushed by 300 hp sb chev?
A guru told me not to bother as merc legs water jacketed all the way.
I hope someone can give me the lowdown on this.

Default shower

Sure it helps keep down the heat on the top gear case. There is no water around it when the boat is running foward at any speed faster than a idle.

I run them on all of my boats. I also ran them on the alphas that I have had. It is cheap insurance & they do work. Jamie

I forget who makes it, but they make a drive shower for the Alpha's that doesn't require drilling holes for the tubes anymore. It just bolts onto the Anchor pin for the trim cylinders.

This is what you are looking for. We put these on all our boats now and it works great. My friend used to have a 21 foot Scarab that would chalk-up REAL bad on the upper gear-case. After the drive shower install it doesn't chalk-up at all.

I have those same ones on my Bravo 1 drives, and the drives don't get chalky any more and I noticed no lost of speed or cavitation problems.

I would defenitely put one on. I have seen several alphas granaid the uppers, just like the bravo's. In fact I let one loose years ago, at a really bad time. Always had chalk film on it also. I have read that the alphas build more heat than the bravo's. I never run without one since that.
