Default Any experience with Skeggards...

has anyone used them? What do you think?

I do not like the idea of drilling holes in the skeg, but I was thinking that if the whole skeg is still intact, then I could fill the skeggard with epoxy and forget the bolts.

Thoughts?

I have used them on several boats, and they seem to work really well. The special bolts are round headed so as to not produce much drag. The Skegaurd looks pretty good also.

I used one on a mildly torn up skeg. Worked well. I like the epoxy idea. My skeg had a lot of corrosion under the Skeggard when I finally took it off.

Default Skeggards

I have Skeggards on my drives. The one concern I had was water that stays traped in the gard. Besides corrosion, I was concerned with the water freezing (I live where that can happen) and causing damage. I drilled a small drain hole in the bottom of each and just check to be sure all water drains out before I put it away. The epoxy idea would solve this problem and should work fine.

My opinion, the skeg is sacraficial and its supposed to break off with an impact. It breaking off may keep more damage from occurring.
