In addition - there are 454 Mag EFI and 454 Mag MPI both at 385 HP - both all forged and one a Gen V and the other a Gen VI.

Yes, in 1996 they switched to Gen 6 and the MPI setup on the 454 Mag and 502 Mag.

I had a 1996 7.4 LX. It was a 330 hp MPI motor with the plenum like the 454 and 502 Mag motors. The 7.4L was a 310 hp motor and throttle body fuel injection at that time. Think they only made the 7.4LX a couple of years.

The 7.4LX looked very close to a 502 MPI. I ran the 7.4LX a couple of years. Then over the winter one year I pulled it and put in a 502 MPI and put the 7.4LX sticker over the 502MPI sticker. None of my friends could figure out why it ran so much faster that before. I told them I just changed the oil and new spark plugs. I loved it. Sorry to get off track here so back to the question.

From 1996 on it was Gen VI roller cam setup with the fuel rail, injectors, etc.

I wonder how my engine relates to 454 MPI and 454 Mag MPI. I've got a 1997 model 7.4 LX EFI which is a TBI version of the 7,4 engine. It has the similar plastic cover over the TBI as the old carb engines had and that cover has a label 7.4 LX EFI on it. I'm guessing it doesn't have more than 310 hp either?
