i have a 31 scarab and i just put imco external steering and the only problem i have is when you turn the wheel u get about 1 turn before the rams outside turn but when the finaly do it kinda just darts in that direction not a slow turn so wat causes this air if so whats the proper way to bleed it out

My thoughts on bleeding air is to treat it like hyd brake lines. either attach a bleeder or do it with a mate turning the wheel with a hose fitting loose (probably best to have the HP on the pump fitting loose) then turn the wheel steadily until the fluid comes out, when it comes out in a steady stream rather than with bubbles or spurts, while still turning the wheel to maintain pressure, tighten the fitting back up.
Would that be a wrong approach? I hope not becuase that's what I've been doing!
Is there another way?

Is it a single or a dual ram system ???
If its dual ram,,,,make shure they are hooked up correctly, then open reservoir and fill up 3/4 of it ,turn on engine and then turn steering all the way to the end ( u will feel it ) at that point turn a little more like u are turning against press. check level and do the same thing the other way. check again and repeat until level does not go down anymore ,,,remember to turn slow otherwise it will not bleed and make a mess !!!!!

When you figure out which fitting is the farthest from the helm (lets say the IN fitting on the left ram), you need to turn the steering wheel ALL the way to the RIGHT, this will completely extend the left ram. Crack the IN fitting on the left ram, have a buddy start turning the wheel to the LEFT. Keep turning the wheel and leave the fitting open until the bubbles stop and you get a steady stream of fluid from the fitting. Close the fitting. Since the drive will be all the way to the LEFT now, move over to the IN fitting on the RIGHT ram. Crack it and have your buddy turn the wheel to the RIGHT until it stops bubbling. For good measure, do that whole process again. Once that is done, use the same idea going in the other direction.
