Default restrictor ????

guys , im having a milky condition in my motor . its a 350 vortec stock, it came with stainless marine exhaust and the dreaded crossover with no bypass and no thermo, water temp is about 100 which i know is not good and im not making any oil temp( the oil temp gauge starts at 140 and never moves even after an hour ride at 3000 to 4000 rpms) which is the real problem. my queston is should i just buy the crossover with the bypass and thermo or i here guys talking about a restrictor plate in the thermo housing to slow the water down and make heat and make oil temp to get rid of the milky condition. by the way the water temp in the bay is 50 to 55 degrees. who makes the plate and where can i buy one or can i make one, what size hole in the plate and what size material. thanks

Don't know if this will help you or not. I have a 509 procharged that I run a thermostat that I removed the internals out of. Procharger says not to run a t-stat, but I couldn't make any engine temp without it. If you have milky oil you may have another issue going on. It would take quite a bit of condensation muck up the oil. Good luck.

I suggest an oil thermostat. Even if you run a water thermostat, it still take a long run to get oil temp to 212+. To get the oil to 212+ to consistently burn off the condensation, an oil thermo is your best bet.

I have the crossover with bypass and thermostat and the temp is very stable. I use the EMI but several companys make them.

Ben hit the nail on the head. Install an oil thermostat. I run all of my engines with the water temp ice cold, but I run an oil thermostat and can easily build 200+ deg of oil temp. It will never milk the oil if the temp of the oil is close to the boiling point of water, since it will steam any water out. Just because you build water temp, it does not mean you will make oil temp, and vice versa. They will help each other to an extent, but they are not directly connected. It's pretty easy to retrofit an oil therm. to your engine. Hardin Marine has a nice oil therm. for a little over $200.

That will fix you up. Good luck, Eddie.

well there is some good news, i pressurized the engine block to 25 psi and after an hour of being pressurized it held at 25psi so i have not internal water problems ie intake gasket or head gasket. i also pressurized the oil cooler to 15psi and that held, so my problem is condensation. today i ordered a crossover with a bypass and it comes with a 142 thermo also told them to sent a 160 thermo, im going to run the 160 thermo first to make some heat in the engine and get some oil temp. if i still have condesation problems i'll buy a oil thermo to get the oil temp up. i hope the crossover with the bypass solves my problem. I had a 28ss with crossovers with a bypass and never had any problem, this engine setup is the same as that except for the crossover without the bypass. thanks for the input

I would run the 140 thermostat in salt water. The salt comes out of the water at 159 F.With a 140F it should run at about 153F.Good Luck.
