Default Trim Switch Wiring Question

Question for any electrical experts out there: The power trim on my TRS drives started acting up- I've got an up/down switch on one of the throttles that controls both drives, individual up/down rockers and a trailer switch that controls both. All the switches started randomly acting squirrley this spring- sometimes working sometimes not. I think the problem is in the Mercruiser Dual Power Trim Controller- trying to troubleshoot that giant box of diodes and relays is beyond me, even with the manual. I've got it rigged right now so the individual toggles will work, with the Throttle switch and Trailer switch disconnected. Here's my question: I don't need the trailer switch- I know how far I can trim on the cable indicators, but I'd like to have the throttle rocker back. If I just hard-wire it in it will jump the individual switches to make them operate both drives, which I don't want. Could I just wire in a 12V DC relay switch that will keep the two isolated and dump the Mercrusier control box?? Any input or suggestions are appreciated-
