Shore Power - 12VDC only
 

I need to add a charger or something to my boat for when at the dock to run 12VDC items - stereo, lights, maybe a 12v TV.

Most of the Hustlers came with Charles chargers and I have a mount for on teh firewall, but I think they are 12VDC and
120 VAC. Which I dont need.

What do you recommend for this application?

We install a lot of the ProMariner ProSport Series chargers and have had no issues at all.

well... if i understand your question at all, you are going to need 110 to RUN your charger. all the chargers i know of are 110 ac in and 12 v dc out some are fast chargers and some trickle but you still need 110 to run it. as for running accessories, i found it really easy to install a 2500 watt inverter and wire up a hnadful of 110 volut outlets around the cabin and cockpit to run conventional 110 devices which are much cheaper and more reliable than their 12 v counterparts.

I understand I'll need 110V in to the charger of course. So I'm looking for a good charger that will accomplish trickle charge when no major load and will provide the amps I need when at dock, plugged in and using lights, stereo etc...

I installed the ProMariner 30A a couple yrs ago. Works for both a charger and dockside power, which I think is what you are asking for. DOn't think the smaller 10,15,or 20A chargers would be big enough for this feature. ?? Works great and never had an issue to date. They have models up to 40A:

Thats perfect!! Thats the only one that say dockside power. I have to believe the others can do the same thing, but you would think they would say so.

I double checked those chargers. Appears that model is advertised as having the dockside feature down to the 10A version, on up to 60A. Not quite sure how that all works, but when I did my install, the ProMariner Tech line was quite helpful. I assume any charger could more or less be classified as a dockside power source, as long as the draw is less than the charge rate. Then it's just an under sized charger. :)

My Checkmate has dual 15A chargers (in 1 stainless steel case) mounted in the engine compartment. I don't remember the brand, but West marine has them. It works fine for running the fridge and stereo when on shore power. I don't have big amps, so far, just 1 300W. You leave 1 of the batteries "on" and it gets used and charged at the same time.
