leaky drive fill fittings....
Is it common for the magnetic drive fill screw to leak?
I changed the drive oil last fall before storing and it was stored all Winter. They did not leak while in storage. Now that the boat is home, I noticed the screws leaking (they are tight).
I have new ones on order and was justing wondering if it is one of those things that should be changed ever now and then.

I buy them a dozen at a time and replace them at each oil change to be safe.

and be careful about keeping it tight as well...I just ordered an entire new upper gearset cause I had one of those drain screws come out while running. Luckily it must have happened near the ramp cause nothing "came apart"......but the upper gears are blue and ruined from the heat.

I told a buddy about it earlier this week and said he was on a poker run with guy that had the same thing happen to them in FL (except they found out the hard way ).

thanks all.
Got the new screws and washers over lunch. Looks like a new type of washer as well. I will put them in this weekend.

If you buy the yellow ones instead of the blue or red ones they will never leak or come loose again.
The yellow is metal with yellow hardend rubber gasket around it. It won't even leak if the yellow part comes off.
All the other ones are a form of paper and what happens is they "crush" as you tighten them. After a while, the screw will be loose enough that you can re-tighten it again. That's when your "screwed". The yellow ones also come with the new drain plug if you ever buy one.

On pressure tests I have had the yellow ones leak.. where the blue ones didnt.. Just an fyi.
Keep and eye on them.. I know of a guy that made it all the way to LOTO and half a polker run before he discovered the plug fell out.. It was a sad trip back to Michigan.
I just keep the good and snug, never had a problem with them falling out..
