Default Installing new heads...

Hey all...

I have a 2000 Mercruiser 7.4 MPI Gen Vl and over the winter pulled the heads due to corrosion... I got myself a new set and am about to install. I have a seloc service manual and it is telling me that as long as I tourque the rocker nuts to spec that there is no further adjustment necc for the valves. It also does not say that I should have each piston at TDC with both valves closed... is this correct? I am used to old Small block chevy car motors and we used to have to put a guage on each spring to get proper adjustment. It's been a while so I guess things have changed... I just want to do it right.

Your thoughts greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

B

Production merc gen v and vi big blocks
have non adjustable valve train.

Just tighten them down to the torque spec listed.

I would convert to adjustable stud mounted rockers. Valve spring height should also be checked.
