Default Electrical / Alternator

On a HP500 (carbed / V-belt) Gen VI, the alternator (Mando) has a box hooked to the back of it that is wired in on both the positive and negative side.

Is this some sort of noise filter for the ignition system? I can't find them anywhere in the Merc Manuals.

One of my brackets broke this weekend, and it is a sealed unit, it will be kind of hard to make something work to fix it. I really don't see the point in keeping these on here if they are not doing anything useful.

Any help? Anybody remove them to see what happens?

Thanks!

Dave
