I agree on the mallory. lost a race(actually never started, broke down leaving the dock) once because of a Holley. I run mallory marine(dont want to get the coasties mad) pumps only. Also agree on the mounting low, I never had a problem on the raceboat with mounting it off a bracket on the stringer, but when I tried that on my pleasure boat(same hull, 24 Pantera) had trouble keeping it primed. Keep it low, but not so low that bilgewater takes its effects on the pump.

I would use nothing but CG approved marine legal parts and would make darn sure the entire fuel system meets CG regulations. It's for your safety and more importantly, the safety of everyone around you. Don't turn your boat into an IED to save a couple hundred bucks.

That being said, I have 9 year old Mallory marine pumps w/ zero failures.

Why are switching to an electric pump????? I would just use a mechanical one.

i have a gen vi motor so there is no place to mount it and my sea pump is a newer model pump (i think) and it does not have a spot for the fuel pump either. electric seems to be the way to go?

Gen VI should have the spot on the block for the external fuel pump. Gen V does not. (I have a Gen V) I had the mechanical fuel pump off of the seapump delivering fuel to my electric fuel pumps. I went through a couple of rebuilds on those also wiped out the cam lobe on the pump......not cheap!!!! and need to keep a close eye on how much gas is leaking into the oil in the housing. (twin TRS boat, don't have the room, time or money to mess with that BS)

I just got a Mallory Marine 140 off of ebay for $165 with regulator, opened box never used.

gen vi does not have it, a gen iv does have it. the gen v was when they started blocking it off and they continued it on the gen vi. i am still looking at pumps. is the holley blue really that bad?

Another vote for the Mallory. Mine are 5 years old and I run them dead headed. No Problems.

my holley blue only made it a few months, switched to Mallory 140, so far it maintains pressure much better.

Same Holley blue pump has been on my boat for last nine years - I've had it for 6 of those. (set up as compliment to mechanical - runs only when engine has oil pressure.)

Yep, you'll have to electric then. Just make sure you wire it with some kind of cut off switch.
