Congrats Jerry!!

That's about what you were expecting, right? When you had this motor setup in your Desktop dyno what head selection did you use?

I can't wait for next week. Should be putting mine on the dyno Thursday the 4th!!

Thanks guys!

tomcat,
no room for intercooler.

27Fountain,
I still have an inch or 2 clearance below the hatch. Boat has always been blown, I just "tinkered" somemore this winter with it.
Ran 83 last year with a 27" Hydro @ 5500. May try a 28 this year.

Mbam,
no, plugs still at .020

boater31,
'94 502, Crane roller, 234/242,112, .610/.632, full ported heads. Anything else, ask away.

Tim,
Hey there!
the MSD was the dynos system. We used it for a comparison to my "failed" stock system. Now I gotta decide to either go Crane, MSD, or just replace my coil and wires for new. More than likely that alone would fix it. Any word of any Ohio River fun or poker runs from Ken for this year?

B4M,
and what the pics don't show......20,000 mile '84 Vette. I think it's black, haven't peeked under the cover for last 4 years.

TomFTM,
Yeah, that's got me too. Goes against everthing I read/heard. Motor didn't like anything under 30* But thats what she wanted.

I would hope Bruce reads this and could explain his take on the timing issue, and for lack of better words, I am an ignition idiot.

US1,

What ignition module are you running ? I too have read and researched the timing issues of over 30* on a blown application.

I have a blown application too. I recently purchased the v-6 module and now I'm not sure if I'd need it.

What kind of compression are you running ?

I'm sure I'll have more questions.

Thanks,

Sounds like your set. Why not increase boost to next pulley ? How was idling characteristics ?

Motor has always been run with the V-6 module and timing set at 28* at 3000 since '95. I prefer to stay at 5 lbs max just for reliability. We never really idled it lower than 1200, so can't say. Since my ignition was bad, going for a comparison between it and MSD didn't happen. I will say that I never noticed any problem last year with it at 28*. On the dyno it would miss out terribly as soon as hit with the load. Also didn't miss out last year either. The motor is originally 8.75 CR and nothing was done to change it. Motor is not built as a "blower" motor, but more of a "bolt-on" blower. Also why staying at 5 lbs max. Fast and HP is cool, but turn key takes priority. The lower the timing was, the higher the exhaust temps went.

On one hand I got an actual running motor on a real time dyno showing more timing.
On the other hand, I got books, blower owners manual and people saying less timing.

I think I got 1 too many hands.

Lets try this.......who's running non intercooled blowers on Prem pump gas with more than 30 deg. of timing?

Jerry

I have run mine for 3 seasons now at 32* total timing 5lbs boost. This was an HP500 I basicly removed carb and bolted on blower. No internal mods at all.

The cam is Crane 139741

Heads are the rec. port ones. Full port job, titanium retainers, comp springs.

Carb is a boost referenced 1050 Dom. The blower/ carb is originally a Nickerson package. Carb was way to rich to make boat dependable. Bruce referenced it, completely redid it with new venturies, air bleeds, and metering blocks and bench flowed set up last year for me. I have no idea what jets are in it. It's perfect, I don't touch it.

It was flowing 1067 scfm @5500rpm

With 5 lbs boost@ 5000rpm: 599hp, 629 ft lbs torque
