Steering Rams TOO beefy???
I just bought a used pair of Latham Marine rams that are the appropriate throw for my setup (single bravo 1, 600hp) according to the tech guy at Latham. However, once I got them in my hands, I realize these things are REALLY beefy.
They're some pretty heavy units. I'm told they came off a Tripple 800hp setup. The transome fittings, for instance, are made of half inch think stainless. Just massive.
I'm not building a race boat, but I'm wondering if I wouldn't be better off trading someone for some less extreme stuff.
The other thought I had was just running a single ram. I know people tend to prefer dual ram setups where cost is no object, but I'm wondering if one super heavy duty ram might not be as good as two lesser ones?
thanks
