I have a '97 checkmate zt-240 with a carb 7.4l. Everything I read says that in '96 the 7.4l motor changed to the L-29 Vortech heads. Some info I read gives me the idea that these heads were only on the mpi motors. The boats in storage for another month, can someone verify what I've got? Thanks in advance.

easiest way to tell is to gete th castign numbers off them and post the number here. I am sure soemebody will be able to tell you what exactyl they are from the #.

My '97 had the small peanut port heads. Never heard any different about those motors.

Peanut port heads. I promise you. The vortec heads do not have an exhaust crossover in them, so they won't work with a carb with a choke. Only the mpi's got the L-29 heads.....
