Where to mount pressure gauge fitting?
Lost the raw water pump in my runabout a couple of weeks ago....
I bought a Livorsi water pressure kit. Where is a good spot to mount the fitting? The high temp alarm is mounted on the thermostat housing. It obviously doesnt work, so I thought about putting it there (nice and easy). But I don't think I would see an accurate pressure reading, as that's right where the manifold water dumps are. Where are you guys mounting your pickup fittings? Merc 454 |
Mounted mine in the top of the manifold. I have a carb unit and there was a plug in the top of the manifold opposite of the water temp sender.

Yeah mine is carbed and has a plug opposite the temp sender. It's all on the thermostat housing. Are you talking about the same thing?

Ah gotcha. This boat is all stock and there is no plug on the manifold for water. I thought about the head but that may be tough to get to. Coming off of the block will probably get full of junk. I'm going to try and put it on the thermo housing (easy) and see how that does.

look close at the front of the manifold. there should be a plug on one side or the other, that's where I have put several.

If it is a stock 454 manifold...
there should be a plug just left of the thermostat opening ON THE MANIFOLD, not on the big housing that bolts to the manifold.
It is one of those that you use a 3/8 extension to remove. The water pressure sensor may be threaded smaller than this opening, however, you can get a brass adapter at the hardware store. Actually, the adapter may come with the sender. Scott |
