Most fuel pump companies will tell you that you need 5 times more pump then the engine requires. I think that is a bit much and can actually cause problems in a boat. That may be fine for drag racing, but that much pump in a boat will just cause excessive heat in the fuel.
The formula that I have used for years is this. Take 10 gals. per 100 hp and double it for the pressure you will be running. For example, if you have and engine that makes 800 hp. It is efi and will be running at 50 psi. Take 8 times 10gph and you get 80 gph. Then double that to get 160 gph at 50 psi. That is what you need.....a pump that can do 160 gph at 50 psi. Most pumps will give their flow at various pressures. All of the better pumps will give you a flow sheet showing pressure and gph. Every Weldon pump comes with an actual pump dyno sheet. Some pumps say they are rated to handle X-amount of hp....do not go by that. Go by the actual flow numbers. I just used an Aeromotive A1000 on a 700 hp engine. It was running out of pump past 5000 rpm. The pump was supposed to handle 1000 hp, but I could not find any actual flow rates. I replaced it with a Weldon and problem solved. Hope this helps, Eddie.

Check that fuel Pressure! If you already have the sea-waterpump with the fuel pump mount USE IT! you can get a billet fuel pump from CV Products, Thomasville NC, Call Dan Kent, Tell him I sent you. This pump will supply more than enough, I'am using 2 of them on some 548 cid, 800 hp 6300 rpms. I have also used them on 1100 -1300hp engines. I wouldn't go to a electric pump.

Fuel presser is stable with the new KE 120, running 5200-5300 rpm (msd rev limiter is 5800) turning a BB labbed 28p on a XR upper -2 imco lower at 76.3 gps, ( todays best run ever)looking for 80 mph gps w/o a blower. Any ideals? nickelson carb?

You probably need 80 HP to get to 80 MPH. A new carb won't likely show anything on the GPS. How flat is the last 8' is the bottom?

The stock raw water fuel pump is only a 42 gph pump and yes you are running out of fuel @ half throttle and will run out a wot. You need to Check and replace the pick up in the tank needs to be 1/2 or bigger and you need to replace the water seperator housing and filter for a bigger one.
Things you need to buy if you want to run that pump use 5/8 hose out of the tank to the filter housing the 5/8 hose to the fuel pump then 1/2 stainless steel line with a fuel log with -8 fittings
1. http://www.eddiemarine.com/store/car...l&p=12177&c=42

2. wix filter 33405 plus 5/8 fuel line

3. Holley pump Holley #510-712-454-13 130 gph
http://www.jegs.com/i/Holley/510/712-454-13/10002/-1#

remove your pump and remover the lower part of the holley and install it on your pump

4. 1/2 stainless steel line or -8 fuel line

5 . fuel log for your carb http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/15198/10002/-1
needle and seats 110 gph should be ok.
I'm running a 850 cfm Barry Grant carb which is like the 1050 holley carb

You need to measure at least one exhaust temp on cylinder 5 or 7 right at the head and run NO higher that 1300 degrees or you need a afr meter if not your asking for more problems.

In the picture i have updated the fuel pump to the KE 120 gph, I do not run a water seperater, i fill up at the gas station only , i have the large areomotine fuel filter and fuel pressure reg. I removed the antisipion valve on the return line, all the stainless braided lines were oversized when i tryed a procharger. The tank pick up, I wil look into that sounds like a ideal place to look. PSI is 7.
