Default Fuel Tank Question??

I have a couple questions. How can I check my fuel tank for a leak? When I fill the tank gas runs into the bilge but when the boat is in use there is no fuel in the bilge?? I have visually inspected the fill and vent lines, no visable cracks but I am going to replace them just in case. Also where can I go to get infomation on the motor, outdrive, ect.. using the Mercruiser serial numbers? I am new to the powerboating world any help is appericated.

Brian, sounds like you should have someone filling the tank while you are inside the boat watching the fill and vent hoses. Both at the fill/vent on the side of the boat and down at the tank. In the meantime make sure you let your bilge blower run for a while before you fire it up!!

You can get all the info from your serial #'s. Can also take your serial #'s to a Merc dealer and get factory service manuals for motor and drive.

Good Luck, Eric

Brian,
I just had a similar problem with the fuel tank. Take a look at the sending unit. There should be a rubber gasket between the flange of the sending unit and the tank. Mine was split and leaking fuel into the bilge. Hope this helps!!!

Thanks for the info guys!! I also thought of the sending unit. When I steped on the top of the tank with light pressure I could hear air coming from the sending unit so that gasket will get changed out as well. Thanks again!

I can't wait for the ice to go out!!!!
