everybodys opinion on demon carbs
i was wondering wat is everybody opinion on demon carbs. the mighty demons to be specific
|
if your going to buy it new
you absolutely have to take it apart and clean it out BG is known for having crap in their carbs when they are brand new I used to work for a place that was a BG dealer and about 90% of them came back with problems once we cleaned them out took them apart they worked great, there are better options out there but they are decent carbs, if your going to spend money and get a new carb try and get a custom carb from CSU, Braswell, or Pro Systems, or another reputable carb builder I personally like CSU the best Kevin builds an awesome carb |
As cbellamore said. I myself run them but did pull them out of the box and disassemble. But I do that with all parts b-4 installing them, habit. They tune very simulair to holleys. Once setup they have proven to be a very good carb. Customer service wise on the tech support side they suck. Have called them in the past and they talk down to you like your some kind of idiot. I buy them from R&D Racing, they always have a deal that no one can beat. My 2 cents....

Best bolt on carb Ive ever bought in my life. Very high quality product.
Got the one with the red inserts. Ive got it in a 500 HP 406 small block way crisper than my holley 750 5500-6K Engle ep20/22 flat tappett, cool fun little 21ft tunnel hull boat Uncle Dave |
i agree. ive only used them in cars. everyone worked fantastic out of the box. no cleanup needed. jetting was really close. worth the money.

Put a Demon on the dyno 2 weeks ago new out of box and right side primaries were plugged giving no fuel.

For the money i would buy these two over a BG

Total junk out of the Box...... filled with crap and nothing adjusted right and bent parts loose bolts and leaking too. It took 2 carbs from jegs to make one clean adjusted and not leaking at the baseplate and all the bolts tight too now.
Now tuned and runs great they are a nice carb when you build it yourself they should just sell them in build your own carb kit ..........A lot less of people would not be pi$$ed off . |

I have purchased 4 and everyone worked great for me.
|
I had one on my old boat, flawless.
My brother has one on his 22 Donzi (HP500) his is great too. You have to read the instruction manual and make sure everything is pre-set right. Then go through the installation process. Not a big deal. Ran great, engine started like it had EFI. |
C&S specialties, aerosol carb best carb i have ever tinkered with:) best throttle response....

We put an 850 MD one on my friend's ZZ572 . No issues other than it was a bit small .We replaced it with a 1050 Dominator .
|
Problem is you only have a couple of choices that are CG legal. None of the custom carb builders mentioned are among them as far as I am aware.
|
Wobble , both the 850 Mighty Demon and the 1050 Dominator we used are CG approved with the 'J" tubes installed .

I have used BG for about 14 years, with excellent results. But I will state that any of the standard production run carbs of which some of you are maybe talking about seem to always have issues. I would say 99% of the carbs I use are the RS style, these are built by one guy, then my salesman, takes them and inspects them before shipping, quality control I guess. The 4150 RS 1025cfm very simple tune-up, the 1050 or larger RS, seems to need air bleeds drilled in the metering plate and smaller air bleeds on the wells, lots of work! Not for the standard guy that wants to just bolt it on. They are coast guard approved. The 4150 1025 cfm RS is a excellent carb for a 540. I have used 2 of the same on a blown application with excellent results.
Now comes the dirt! I'am tried of working the carbs on the dyno, for Barry's pocket. Plus a 2 week delay. So on the last build I used 2 1150 from Pro Systems, from RM BUILDER, he is your best source. Had to make a idle adjustment in the boat, no changes on the dyno. Nice bolt on, he was right on with the head and cam specs from Bob. |

or you can intsall the J tubes yourself that is very simple to do I forgot about C&S they are right up there also Gordon is great to deal with I would not waste my money on a brand new Barry Grant, if you found one used for a decent price thats a different story call some of the custom carb builders you will not be dissapointed their stuff will 99.9% of the time make max power directly the way they send it to you, CSU, C&S, and Braswell are my personal favorites, Ive used all 3 of them with great results, Pro Systems is hit or miss sometimes, the last carb they did for a friend of mine turned out to be a flop, it was no where near the right setup and after going back and forth with Patrick we ended up selling the carb and getting one from CSU that was dead on when it showed up |
It takes alittle more than J vents to make a carb USCG approved. Throttle shafts and a U.L. Certification, thats why it's alittle more in cost.
I was just wondering; when you ordered the carb.from Pro Systems, did you give the head flow #, cam specs and so on? What was wrong with the carb? Mark |

Mark the carb kept dying on its face above 6500 rpms on the dyno so we spend a whole day playing with timing and jetting, when we got it to make good power it wouldnt hold an idle we took it off ordered a CSU went back to the dyno and made almost 35 more hp with the CSU piece right out of the box, pulled hard through the rpms and idled great I also had another small carb from Pro Systems on a 306 inch street motor that I could not get to idle no matter what we did to it I honestly prefer Kevin as CSU he did a blow thru carb for my 434 inch sbf twin turbo motor made over 1900 hp on the dyno right out of the box |
