Has anyone used the JL class D amps? They are more pricy than the PDX's but read they have better sound quality. Not sure thats worth the extra price in boating environment. I am using PDX's as stated by Griff.
Not sure about the 14.4 vs 12V rating. I have no noticeable difference in sound quality with the batteries at 12 or 14 volts. Im actually running my system with 2 PDX amps off of 1 of Interstate group 29M Deep cycles. |
What is everyones thought on a 10" bazooka tube. i have a 22zx donzi and don't really have room for a box since i want to leave my cushion in the cuddy

Like Griff stated, plan for expansion. The 770 components are awesome speakers, but in a boat it is difficult to get the volume out of the boat. Installing on sides will allow the sound to bounce around inside the boat, but difficult to hear on the water or on shore. Need to get them as high as possible and if you can make pods that will allow the speakers to face upward some, will make a difference.
Thats the problem in mine 4 down low and 4 in the sides,It just doesn't sound loud to me.I was thinking about changing out the MB quarts 6.5 to the JL 770's .Do you all think its worth changing out?? |
You guys that like the PDX and JL amps, check out the Wet Sounds Syn amps. They're made for hot environments, very efficient, small chassis', and marine grade at that.
The Syn6 is a 1000W 6-channel and can play any combo of cockpit speakers along with the subs. http://www.wetsounds.com/pages/produ..._overview.html Also, the WS-420 is a line-driver/pre-amp/dual-zone equalizer that can control the cockpit, cabin, and sub completely separately. This way you could turn the cabin speakers down completely, while playing the cockpit speakers and sub. http://www.wetsounds.com/pages/products/WS-420.html |

If I would be better off with 2 amps be sure and let me know what ones. http://www.wetsounds.com/pages/products/WS-420.html John |

I really like the syn6. It looks like channels 5 and 6 would handle the subs. Is it possible to run 4 tens with this set up or just 2? I would really like to try this out. On the high side I would plan to run 3 sets of the xs650's and just an additional couple of tweaters. Let me know when you can. Thanks for emailing the other info.
John Extra tweeters aren't necessary. I replaced a set of Polk Momo components in a customers boat with Clarion tweeters and XS-650's. I only used the tweeters because they wanted to fill the holes with something that worked. The Polks were blown. It's honestly too much with the 4 extra tweeters. The 650's are enough, and honestly I haven't heard any speakers as bright as these. They're a true component style speaker, as the tweeter floats over teh woofer, not through it like most coaxials. http://jonyb.webs.com/photos/Random-Boats/DSC_7330.JPG http://jonyb.webs.com/photos/Random-Boats/DSC_7329.JPG |

THe Syn6's sub channel is 600W. You could power 3 or 4 of the XS-10FA's with the Syn6. They're a dual 2 or dual 4 ohm configuration. I'd recommend 3 of the dual 4's for a 2 ohm load. You could manage to power 4 of them, but I don't think it's enough power for 4. Id go to the Syn1 for 4 subs. It'll play down to 1 ohm mono.
