high volume machanical fuel pump?
during SuperV's dyno pulls this past weekend we had an Issue with the fuel pressure getting a bit low with the stock pump. We have the ones mounted on the seawater pump who makes a high volume pump that will replace it? will a HV holley work?

I bought 2 carter high output mech pumps from CV products and put the fuel pump bottoms on the mercury stock fuel pump tops with levers. You will need to get some small screws and drill some of the screw holes out, since Carter and Mercury pumps have the threads in opposite pieces.
Mine are mounted on the sea pumps and I maintain 8 - 9 on the mechanical preasure guages and I have low pressure warning lights on the dash. No problems all last year on 540 cu motors. I don't have the part number, but here is their web address. I would give them a call. Good luck. http://www.cvproducts.com/ rbtnt |
There has got to be an easyer way than that......does'nt anyone make a HV machanical pump that bolts right up?????
|
Put an electric pump on it & be done with it.
|
cp performance sells one.

I bought two Holley HV Marine mechanical pumps from Snyder marine that had the arm modified so they would work on the sea water pump. Hold good fuel pressure with twin 750s on a blower.
|
If you buy the carter buy it form a local car parts store. About half the price CP performance will sell it for.

I have a used HV mech pump for sale. Holley or Edelbrock, I'm not really sure. It has 1/2" ports so it'll flow around 140gph. $25 and it's yours.

Cord. Do you need a regulator with that one?
|
Yes. As I recall it made something like 13psi.

Wrong Arm
The one from the local parts store will have the wrong arm on it. You could just change the head, but will have the mentioned fastener headaches.

I called Steve Snider last night and he recomended that I just go with holley Marine electric pump about $112 from Summit or Jeggs......or try up grading my lines all to 1/2 inch...

When I was at the Atlantic City boat show I spoke with a Holley rep. who stated that Holley supplies the pumps to Mercury Marine. He showed me one in the catalog, and stated that it would bolt directly to the sea pump. I do not have the part #, but I do remember that the housing could be twisted so that the inlet/outlet locations fit your particular application.

If tou go with an electric feul pump you dont want one that dead heads into a regulator or carb you want to run one that has a return system its alot more work but well worth it.In our boats we run the Magna Flow 275 pumps and we are dynoed at 630HP.we got tired of constant belt problems with the sea pump mounted feul pumps.went threw 4 of the mallory 140's in one season.
|
What was the problem with the Mallory's?
|
because they don't have a return system to to tank the pump is always under load with no way of cooling down. the 4 pumps we bought were for 2 different boats all 4 failed .I'm not saying the magna flows haven't been trouble free but that was pumps they built 2 years ago. they had magnet problems but they have taken care of it and have about 300 hrs. of trouble free operation. They are all i install on customers boats .i also just purchased their500 gal. pump for my new engine dyno.
