??? Carburators On 502

Hopefully an easy question for you knowledgeable motor guys. I have a couple carbs from my original 93' Merc 502's. I looked at the Carbs can't find any info or Manufacturer or part number. Does anyone know what type of carbs these are. I want to list them for sale but want to describe them acurately.

Don't know if Merc would have used more than one type back then.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks Mr I will take a pic tomorrow. Someone else told me he thought they might be Rochester's. Did Merc use all 3.

getrdunn 02-03-2010 08:19 PM

Carter also.

wjb21ndtown 02-03-2010 08:23 PM

Aren't the most common carbs on these motors the 750 cfm Rochester Quadrajet carb?

I remember my old boat 93 Challenger with twin 454's came with Carter I am pretty sure. It was years ago and I didn't have them on long so am not 100% sure however I know they were not Q-jets.

if they were rochester the secondarys would be 2 1/2 x the size of the primaries throttle blades...Weber,carter,edelbrock are all the same castings by weber and you would see Weber's name casted into it..holley would have 2 fuel inlets on the choke side of the carburetors, weber and q-jet would have one fuel inlet..

mike tkach 02-03-2010 09:23 PM

if it if hp500,its a holler,im not sure about the rest of the carbed 502s.

mike tkach 02-03-2010 09:25 PM

oops,did i say holler,OK HOLLEY:coolcowboy:

Do you have a engine serial number???

ezstriper 02-04-2010 06:42 AM

if it's a std 502 should be the edelbrock style carters, is the carb wider than long with the fuel line coming in the rear corner ?

fastlane40 02-05-2010 03:01 AM

If they are 502's they will be Rochester Quadrajets.

ezstriper 02-05-2010 06:08 AM

not here in the mid 90's...all mercs used carter's as there was a issue between merc and rochester...

Pro1 02-05-2010 08:55 AM

Holley 9381 830 cfm

Pismo10 02-05-2010 01:03 PM

And the winner is????

Pismo10 02-05-2010 01:10 PM

My guess is weber

1990-1992 #s 0C878221-0D824588 had QJets
1992-1993 #s 0D824589-0F114528 had webers

so 1992 was the change year and a 1993 should be webers..

doctor_ratz 02-05-2010 04:52 PM

My Hp's have Holley, 850's

fastlane40 02-06-2010 03:56 PM

Boat tech.Put up a picture.I'll eat my mouse if they are anything other than Q-jets.

 It's not me that was asking about the what style carb it should be, We are waiting to see if (cocktails) will ever come back and give us an update to see who the winner is:drink:

With out a picture or serial number it would be just a guess because some where in that time frame MerCruiser went from using this style carb, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show_...esc=CARBURETOR

Over to a weber style like this, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show_...OR+%28WEBER%29

And that information can be found here. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selec....asp?type_id=8

Cocktails needs to put his down and grab the camera. Where he beeeeee.

jeffswav 02-06-2010 06:05 PM

My guess would be a weber, it looks very similar to the carter & edelbrock. Most likley not a Q Jet but who knows with Merc. My stock 1994 330 BBC came with the Weber, sold the carb a long time ago.

WOW, WHAT A GREAT RESPONSE.!!! tHAT'S WHY i LOVE OSO.

Been out of town for a few days, I will get a picture taken today and post on so the winner will be determined. Now I'm more confused. The only one that may be out is the 500 Hp carb since these motore were the original 502 390hp.

Thanks for all the replies.
