looking for the bowrider and smaller boat than that.
i just sold my 242 for that reason! but thanks for the ideas.

about moving the seat, doesnt that present an issue with the hatch size and so on??

Kevin - you're still looking for that BR!

You know I ended up getting that '95 stingray 696ZP - it's the predecessor to the 230LX. I have a 454 mag in it. It runs nice for what it is - 65.5 GPS on the limiter with a beat up 23p mirage on it. Does it even with a moderate load. I (still...) haven't run the 25P mirage any faster than about 66, but I haven't had a light load to try to get more revs.

2003 was the year they moved the seat up. - check the factory website. I THINK 2002 was the only year they came with a 496 instead of the 502.

I'm looking to possibly do something like you are. I was/am happy with my boat, but a few weeks ago I stumbled across a 230LX with 502 mag and a sternjack. 150 hours, stored indoors - sounded perfect. Maybe a tad pricey - but I would have paid for it. I missed it by a week. That boat made me realize that I'd like to upgrade at least my hull at some point. No hurry, but I'd buy the right boat that either had a BB or would be an easy swap with my motor/boat.

Just note that SB thru-hulls are going to be in a different spot than the BB's. Not a huge issue. Almost all of them were B1's so you're good there.

I think stingray put those sternjacks on some of the 502's from the factory. Their website shows that the 220 never came with a BB, but I saw one last year with a claimed stock 502 and a sternjack. There is also an article on their website about sternjacks. Maybe a special build? I don't know.

On to the seat move I've heard from others that it is just a simple seat move. BUT now that you say it, I agree that the sunpad would be an issue.

The engine compartment will be different than your old check - much tighter - I don't think your blower will fit unless you raise the sunpad. So there - you have to modify the sunpad either way. I don't think it would be that hard and you could make it look (fairly) stock.

Was watching that boat for over 2years now, i actually have the dealer receipt and details on that boat. he wouldnt budge on price for the last two years or more, Eureka, Mo right?

That was the one I was gonna look at when/if I was going down to see the boat you bought!

OLD thread, I have bought a boat, an outboard checkmate BR. Great boat for what I am doing now, but will still watch for that 220/230LX to come up for sale....I've still got that 502 waiting to go in!! :drink:

Holy cow - I now realize that thread was from 2010, not 2011!!

I don't think I knew you got a new check. Heck, you could have gotten my starliner for a song. I sold it fairly cheap to a guy who kept asking "are you sure this boat has enough power" - yeah - 225 hp on a 1500lb hull - it will pull your son up out of the water on a wakeboard.

... so 'uh you really should get that 502 out of your garage - maybe sell it cheap to someone who could put it in... something...blue and white and about 23' feet long?!

Probably would be a bit of a project - like I said though raising the sunpad wouldn't be all that bad.

I'll PM you in a few weeks on the check site (going on vaca tomorrow).

Take care-
Anthony

make me an offer

i just might let it go.

it is a nice motor, pushed my 24 checkmate to 73 mph!

all the 454 access from your existing motor will/should bolt right on and you can go...the only thing i would do different is a different cam than whats in it.

wonder what it would do in your boat, your going 65 now, I gained 17mph from that motor in my old boat. I would think you should to....imagine 80+ in your stingray.....thats what i have been thinking of all this time!

funboat 03-31-2011 08:44 PM

Stop teasing me - I just checked this thread before we take off for vaca. Now the whole time we're on the "wife's vacation", I'm going to be thinking about raising that sunpad, what $ your motor would cost and and how hard it would all be.

I know my current set up has a few more mph left in it - prop, dialing in trim and getting the boat light (for once). Plus my motor has ~ 500hrs on it and I'm sure it's no longer putting out the full 385hp (stock with just a hardin / K&N filter). So yeah - 80 could be in reach with your motor. Would need a steering upgrade too.

Or imagine proping "down" and running 75 with a boatload of people. Either way it'd surprise some people.

Let's touch base end of the summer and see what we're both thinking. I lost your # - so PM it to me.

stingray698 04-02-2011 09:08 PM
