Default Speaker and Amplifier Opinions?

Still researching for a new stereo system. Im kind of narrowed down to JL vs Alpine for amps. Any opinions here, anyone used or heard both? Still up in the air for speakers, leaning towards JL but looking for other ideas. Head unit, Alpine, Clarion or Pioneer?

I am totally redoing my fountain right now and I am going to go with all jl audio and a kenwood deck with built in ipod connection and xm radio hookup. I don't have all the model numbers but will get them soon from my supplier.

Thumbs up

I just went with the new Kenwood receiver that the face drops down and has the ipod and usb connections inside. All the rest of the "brains" for the unit is mounted inside of cabin. Used the in dash remote for this unit on the drivers side. Removed all Sony/Pioneer speakers and put Memphis Marine "true" co-axials. Each speaker tweeter can swivel and be pointed toward you and each speaker has its own cross over box that is mounted close to speaker. Added Kenwood marine 12 in sub woofer because it comes with the amp. System sounds great.
Has 6 8in co-axials, 1 12in sub, 2 amps for the speakers totaling around 1500 watts and sub has its own amp.

Default Speakers and Amp

Just finished installing JL 6-channel AMP, woofers and speakers. Used a Sony head unit with Ipod and Sirrus radio. Boat was equipped with Sony remote so Sony head unit made sense. The JL system is awesome.

The marine Pdf marine amps by alpine work awsome. They are fairly small and make great power. I sell all of them, but sell more alpine amps than any other. As far as head units go I would go with the new alpine 305 iPod only deck. It's not a marine deck, but it will work with the marine controlers. The new 305 will work with pandora if you have an I phone. The kenwood excelon cd players also work good. As far ad mids and high my favorite is the focal line up. The have a 8" coax that kicks azz. They are not a marine speaker, but they offer marine white grills to go with them. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you.

I have a 28' bow rider with a mid-cabin. I ran the two Sony speakers in the bow and the two in the mid cabin off of the 4-channel radio amp. In the cockpit i used a JL 6-channel AMP, two 7" clarion with individual tweeters for front using two channels, Two in the rear using two more channels and the remaining two channels for two 10" JL subs. I put a switch in the dash between the signal wire from the radio to the AMP. That way i can shut off the cockpit at night but leave the mid cabin sound on. It is as loud as you can stand.

I'm guessing you are talking about the Alpine PDX's vs the JL digitals. I don't think you can go wrong with either. I have not heard the JL's to give a comparison. I don't even know if you would be able to tell a difference.

took a road trip yesterday to a place that actually had a good selection of marine stuff on the demo board. spent some time listening to different stuff and my conclusions were-JL speakers sound the best, they have a very full mellow sound that I like and good sound coverage, no holes. Close second were the Memphis Audio speakers, they have a very good sound, were a little brighter than the JL but they do have a noticeable(to me) dead spot in between the high and mid. Not a deal killer though, and they sound very good, if you mix and match size with them they probably would cover. I like the JL's tone, mellowness, and coverage just a bit better. Amp wise I didnt get to hear any but I will probably match amps to speaker brands just because, and I got some good feedback on Memphis so it comes down to either a Memphis or JL system. I like the small size of the JL MHD amps for hiding them and less power draw for a +. Memphis power and quality, and their cheaper price puts them close. I acutally like the look of the look and style of the Memphis stuff better. Head unit gonna be Alpine with remote, not liking the remote menus and interface that well but its better than the rest. Small delay in remote also because its wireless, but gives lots of mounting options and you can remove the bezel and color it. Leaning towards JL system of 2 pair 6.5 coax, 1 pair 7700 coax, 1 pair 10" subs, JL MHD600/4 amp for highs, JL MHD 750/1 for subs. It is about 700.00 more than the Memphis equivalent, just gotta make the call if its worth the extra $. Memphis system 2 pair 6" coax, 1 pair 8" coax, 1 pair 10" subs, 1 16.MCS 1400 mobile amp to power it all. Decisions to be made soon lol.
