I've been thinking about this for a while. I added simple K&N style Rocker breathers while waiting on the billet tall breathers. I've also seen boats with both rockers plumbed to a central puke tank which has a filtered vent.
Plumbing back to the air intake is the environmentally friendly way to go which came from the way auto manufacturers had to do it. I've often wondered if any one way or combo helps with crankcase pressure and breathing ability more or less.

I have found that simply putting a pair of breathers in the valve covers can allow some oil to leak out of them during a hard run. No big deal or big lose of oil, just enough to be a nuisance and a mess. Plumbing to the flame arrester didnt make any sense to me. The thought of allowing hot, oil soaked air into my intake, just doesnt sit right with me. My solution was to plumb both valve covers to an Imco vented puke tank. Worked out great. Leaks are gone.
I dont have a good picture, but this should show the general idea..
